Day 2 – Mildura to Warren Gorge

IMG_0350Last night’s sleep was pretty good although there a few hoon loons about on the main road doing what hoons do.
Out of bed about 8 am and then remembered, yew bewty nae work today.
Turned on the water for a cuppa and it went 5 seconds and stopped, wtf but after speaking with a couple of the Jayco massive we had forgot to turn on the water pump. Switch to on and cuppa was back on track, joined by cereal and time 2 go.
Went through our hook up check sheet, again provided by the Jayco massive who were heading back to Tassie and must have had enough questions from us at this point. We left the park glad it was only a stop and go for 1 night. Today Kaz will be doing all the driving and I will do the blog work as we head from Mildura to Warrens Gorge which is about five hours drive. Dead kangaroo count is at about six so far and the birds are getting a great feed on them, circle of life eh.
Warren Gorge is about 500 – 800 million years old and is off grid for 1 night before we make for Cooper Pedy. There is an honesty box and so $15.00 dollars a night. This spot famed for its Rock Wallaby’s, kangaroos (alive) and Apostle birds. We plan to do the Loop Trail which is a 5 k walk through the Gorge to amazing views apparently.
We took off about 9 am roughly and the weather was not that great but improved as we left Hoondura. In front of us a five hour drive which quickly turned to crap as we were driving in to a strong headwind, this was a pain not only in time but ate in to our fuel reserves and it ended up taking six hours to complete the trip to the Gorge. We drove in to find a suitable spot for the night and ended up driving through water and crazy angles through trees to the far end of the Gorge and seen only one other group of crazy people sleeping in swag tents on the ground. We got the Webber Q on and chook dinner with spuds was devoured with a couple of night caps before the daylight disappeared and we were asleep by 8.30 lol. Kaz didn’t get a great deal of sleep due to the isolation, the deadly pitch black, the quiet and wondering if the Pajero would start in the morning due to running on solar power only. Will add pic’s later as the internet is like dial up and slowwwwwwwww.
